holidays

i both like and dislike holidays.

the like:
some of them bring in the customers who will drink, party, dance, and just wanna have fun. (see youtube video. was a good night!) any excuse for a party?

the dislike:
some of them dont bring in customers - they stay at home for it - and people who do come out just stand around doing nothing, dont spend much money, and end up leaving cause they're not having fun.

but even the good holiday nights are aggravating sometimes. new faces, oddball requests from people who've never been there before, requests for the same song to be played over and over ("but we just got here!") like i should have sympathy for someone who's been out at another bar all night and finally decides to come out to our club?

i like nights to go smoothly, so that people dont have an excuse to fight or get stupid. nights that throw my timing off are just aggravating. notice i said timing not scheduling? there is a difference. its like comedic timing - you want the punchline to hit with the most effect. well, i want the music i play to do the same thing.

doesnt help when the people who arent dj's keep trying to tell me how to do the job.

my favorite quote of the week - "i never tell you what to play!" and the very next night he sends me a text to play a song.

fun.
